Having originally studied sculpture, David Yurman arrived onto the jewelry design scene after a brief career as an artist and sculptor.  After receiving positive feedback for a belt buckle he designed for his wife, Sybil, David began designing, manufacturing and selling additional buckle designs.  While dabbling with wire as a medium for his buckles, David Yurman discovered and perfected his signature look, that of a twisted cable.

The original cable design took on the shape of helix-type bracelets ending with jeweled terminators.  At present, the twisted cable design is at the root of each and every piece of jewelry that David Yurman designs.
